Can anyone help me please, I am so stuck!

I've never tried cable before but have found a simple (or so I thought) pattern for a scarf. It's mainly rib with a cable twist thing in the middle.

But I still don't get it :?

The pattern says to slip 6 stiches onto cable needle and hold at back. Then (K1 P1) 3 times from the left hand needle.
Then (K1 P1) 3 times from the cable needle - this is where it all goes wrong.

Which end of the cable needle do I knit from?? Whichever end I try it ends up looking nothing like the pattern.

I'm clearly doing something wrong here - any ideas please??

I was hopeless at cabling with a cable needle. I found cabling without the extra needle, just using 2 needles, alot easier. If you wanted to give it a go I downloaded a great tutorial off of a website a couple of years ago I could e-mail you.

Hopefully someone with a bit more experience will be able to answer your question.

Sounds as if you are not bringing your cable needle forward. You have cable needle @ back of work then you k1 p1 threetimes from Left needle now bring cable needle forward dont twist it as it should be lying in right way to knit from. Now with right hand needle knit off the 6 sts on cable as before K1 P1 three times . Check abbreviations, you are doing CB (cable back) you may come across CF ,that's when you have the cable needle lying in front of work. Hope you understand this . Never ask an Irish woman Directions (or instructions) as we are programmed for Verbal only!

Think that might be it Do - I'm trying to knit off the cable needle with it still at the back. Will try bringing it forward before I knit the stiches off it and see how I get on.

Cabling with 2 needles sounds even more complicated!

Think I might stick to what I know

Don't panic! You won't be using 2 cable needles @ same time or I would not be doing it either.Have a go , as they say it is easy when you get the knack of it. I refused to do any thing w ith a cable stitch till I was about 50. I still keep it simple , not like the experts we see on Forum.I just admire them from a distance. Do.

Honestly cabling without the needle is really easy and for me a lot less fuss. But with everything best stick with what you know :)

It is done by a twisting action. I do have the instructions somewhere and I will send them too you as soon as I can BUT our house looks like an auction room at present as we have had big renovations..Anyone in the region spotting nuclear clouds need not be alarmed it is only the dust from here!

If you have a look here it shows how to do it.

I`d feel safer using a cable needle to be honest, it looks far more fiddly without.

Elaine.
