At Friday’s meeting there was Barbara, Isobel, Jean, Arlene, Pearl, Liz, Rosie, Elaine, Mag and Myself. We were joined by two new ladies, Stonehaven Sue who recently registered on the forum and Camey Duncan, so welcome to you both and we hope you enjoy taking part in the new winter challenges.

It was a bit wet and windy on Friday but everyone made it to the meeting safe and sound and there were loads and loads of donations. So here they are:

From Barbara there were two lovely boobs.

Isobel had made a huge amount of items for our Christmas Fayre in November - 12 scarves, 4 pairs of mittens and 22 hats! Thanks Isobel everything is beautiful and i’m sure it will be snatched up at the sale.

Jean had made 9 lovely scarves and more squares.

Image

Arlene had made 4 beautiful scarves and also donated 2 scarf kits.

Image

Liz had made 16 great hats and more squares – love the stripes!

Image Image

Mag had made a fantastic santa with sack for the fayre, 2 hats, 3 scarves and she also donated a bag of shoebox items.

Image

Jessie donated a lovely variety of items for the shoeboxes.

Image

Tere handed in more pretty coloured squares.

I managed 4 machine knit hats after finally getting my mum’s knitting machine from her and getting some advice from Mag on where to start. It’s quite addictive once you get started but boy I have a long way to go before I will be able to produce more than a hat or a scarf! I also did a red hand knitted moss stitch square for the Union Jack flag and had a bag of children's items for the shoeboxes.

Image

On top of all this we also had a donation of pre-loved knitwear from a lady called Wendy Cook and a big bag of pre-loved cuddly toys from my mum, Marilyn Furst.

We also managed to make up 17 shoeboxes for Blythswood, so thanks again for all the donations for these. Mag will get these dropped off to our local collection centre on returning from her hols.

So a great big THANK YOU to everyone – you are all stars in my eyes x

I love seeing the photos too. Thanks for posting them. :D Question for Isobel I just loved the blue fairisle mitts and hat. Was they knitted with self fareisle wool? I have some variegated wool and I am not sure how to use it. Can anybody help? I am impressed with the machine knitted stuff too. Smashing Items and well done with all those shoe boxes. Pat

Mag and George were here around lunchtime on their way down the road - I was glad to see them both looking better - think looking forward to their holiday has helped ;0) I am intrigued to see all of your items when I open up this huge box - won't be for a few days though - I am determined to give myself time to catch up with the knitting orders and hopefully get up to date with posting the photos of the donations for the last few weeks as well before I open any more packages ;0)

Hopefully Mag will manage to meet up with everyone she hopes to on her holidays and she is coming in past on her way back up again so I can catch up with how she got on then :0)

Yes I used the Poundstretcher Aran wool to make the striped hats and mitts.
I used the pattern in the new Woman's Weekly "Knitting and Crochet Special Autumn 2009" pages 26 and 27 which costs £3.50.

There are cute cats on page 58. Noddy by Alan Dart on page 49.

I'm on boring seamen's hats now and bought the scarf wool from Lidl so using that and it is knitting up so fast I'm not feeling so guilty at adding to my stash :)

Isobel made some beautiful hats and scarfs on her new knitting looms. She brought the looms to the meeting to show us and i even had a go. It's quite easy once you get the hang of it and very quick as well. Think that's what i shall spend some of my birthday money on x
