Thought I would put this here to help new members to find it easier - I will put up each challenge as it comes round in this part of the forum as well :wink:

Spring Challenge 2009 - running from now to Easter Saturday

300 knitted or crocheted boobs for Leeds Health Board midwives

200 toys for ambulance and fire crews in UK - approx 8 to 10 inches in size.

300 items to keep the elderly warm in european countries like Croatia, Romania, Moldova etc for Blythswood Care - things like lap rugs, hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, socks, cardigans, jumpers etc.

and for our stitchers-

200 bags o save baby Puffins blown from their nests on St Kilda - these bags need to be made of dark coloured fabric - preferably cotton type (maybe suiting, heavy curtain material, denim or something like that) need to be 12 inches square and not have any seams on the inside (use french or enclosed seams or line them and put on a drawstring to fasten.

There you go then - hope you can all find lots to choose from here - remember though if you do't like challenges you don't need to take part we always need everything on our wish lists as ongoing projects :0)

Hi Lou,

Having now read whats needed for both of the above, I am going to get some things on the go for you. I go to a craft club on a Thursday afternoon and its mainly older people that go and natter more than craft (like all us women like to do) . So you can imagine trying to do something tricky is a no no, so out of the lists you have given I will definatly find something to do whats easy, so I can natter too!!!
Im glad I have found a happy gang of people who have welcomed me to the forum, and somewhere I can put my stash of wool to good use. My mum had her own wool shop but sold it when my father died, I wish now I had kept it going, but money was tight at that stage and when I look back now I think I could have made a go of it, if I had thought about it more. So that is mainly where most of my stash is from, as well as the compulse buying of wool still.
So I am off now to sort some boxes out and to keep your charity happy!!!!! Sue.

I bet you are kicking yourself now Sue - with knitting becoming more popular again you would have probably had a thriving wee business there by now - never mind your stash seems too have benefitted when the shop closed down and now all of our charities will as well. Happy knitting :0)

Hello Lou,

I have been sorting through my pattern stash, and come across quite a few patterns I am going to knit for the wish lists and challenge. I have found a pattern for a babies sleeping bag with a hood on, can I knit a few of these? I bought the pattern and never used it, so I want to give it a go.
It could be used for babies that don't survive sadley, as a buriel gown wrap.
We had to sort a cupboard out yesterday as we are decorating, it was a wool stash cupboard and the amount of wool - its unbelievable!!!

I am going to use it for your charities and not buy any more until I am on the last bag. If there is one bin liner (big black ones) there must be twenty!!!!
My hubby says if I go near a wool shop before I have used all this - hes going to take it back!! ( I don't think so)
It's knitting weather where I am, snow and cold.

Yes Sue - you can go ahead and knit some sleeping bags - some of the ladies make these already for us :0)

Sounds like you have a stash to be proud of there :wink:

I think that is impossible. Aren't we all compulsive yarn buyers? I'm sure I have an addiction...
