Recent events has given me this idea. Perhaps it might be a nice idea for the Local LH Groups to include one or two local charities / branches of charities that they would like to support so that they feel they are helping locally as well as nationally and globally. It could be added as a local Challenge on behalf of LH. This might also spread the word of what we do.

This could be extended to people living in the vicinity who would like to support these local causes and they would post their items into that Local Group.

However, the caveat to this is that each Group would have to be responsible for logging and notifying the totals to Lou for the rest of LH to see and delivering said items to the local charity. This can be quite a tall order, as I am sure Lou and Kelly can atest to....so think carefully before taking it on board!

So, before anyone comments, it should be considered by Lou and the Group leaders and their gang as they hold ultimate responsibility and have the final decision.

Hello

I was going to suggest my local Feed the Children office, as I could deliver my donations & it would then cost me no postage.

However looking at their site it says they are currently not taking anymore knitting donations !

Nevermind, I am still happy to knit & post...

You are right Helen - quite a few of our newer members have joined us because of that - also some Red Cross branches have shut down their knitting groups too (Hampshire had one and they are now telling all of their knitters about the Portsmouth group starting up so hopefully they will either join or hand their knitting in there).

Oddly we had discussed the idea of local groups having their own local challenges at Monday afternoons meeting (most of my backroom buddies being present we were bouncing around a few ideas). We are quite in agreement with everything Lorainne has said above - please let HQ know what you are supporting though and also the totals etc so we can let the rest of the group know how well you are doing. Cherryl already passes her Blythswood and Linda Mcdonald donations directly to them as they are all close to her home - she posts the rest over to HQ as normal :0)

Thought I'd let you know that the local branch of "Tenovus" sell knitted items at the local hospital about three times a year. I have promised them a few items but I will mention LH and let you know what I send and with the help of the hubby I may even get to post a photo.
If there is anyone in this area, the next sale is at Prince Charles Hospital in March, if you contact me I'll put you in touch with the organiser, my details can be found in my profile. It would be great for a few LH friends to donate.

Cheers all, Barbara xx

Sorry to hear that FTC don't want any more jumpers, as I'm on to the second sleeve of a lovely yellow one!! Should I send it in to HQ for it to be found a good home?

Yes of course we can still use every garment, blanket, toy or boob that comes in no matter what - FTC are only withdrawing their request for school jumpers temnporarily until they can raise enought funds to get the ones they have in their warehouses over to Kenya so will probably renew their appeal after that. We can send your jumpers over to Linda Mcdonald for her children or to Blythswood or Algerian Action for the children they support until FTC need them again :0)

Thanks, Lou. I'll keep going with jumpers because I've also got some dark blue, pink, etc, etc!! It's a long time since I actually produced a garment from a pattern and am pleased with it so far. Might change my mind when I try to put it all together and create the neckband. I'll be delighted if I get both sleeves the same length - watch this space! Years ago, I made a jumper for my husband. I just got carried away I suppose, but he had to put up with very warm wrists where he had to turn up the cuffs several times. We live and learn!!

I always keep a note of my rows when I am making a garment that way I can make sure back and fronts are exactly same and sleeves too (first sleeve I would put a tick at each row and then on second sleeve cross it through - I put X's where I cast off the stitches before the top shaping as well) it worked for my mum and gran as well and we have got Kelly doing it for her T shaped jumper she is making at the moment :0)

i`ve just had an idea for local knitting projects,
at church this morning i sat next to a couple with a baby who was very good but got a bit grizzly at times ( she slept through sermon!)
i suddenly thought ` what if i and maybe some of the other ladies at church were to knit some toys to give to any young members,it would keep them amused and they could keep the toy which might give them good memories of their church visit!)
i shall suggest in next newsletter i think
