Present last night were Julie, Marion, Molly, Pauline, Jean, myself and new member Chrissy (Kitty Kat). Abi, Marilyn, Margaret and Sheila were absent and we missed you ladies.

Molly made some tasty little cakes which went down well with our tea - thank you Molly. We even managed to knit last night! At times we were all so engrossed that there was total silence for a minute or two!!!

Lovley to meet Chrissy our new member and hoped that she enjoyed our banter enough to come again. She kindly wound some sparkly wool using Pauline's gadget - that has been very useful just lately! Hope we see you again at future meetings Chrissy.

We had some great donations as usual which I will photograph in a minute once I get myself organised. Several of these donations were knitted from the 'wool mountain' yarn and have turned out very well. Marion's cousin donated some baby hats and the warden of her flats crocheted some really interesting frilly scarves which were so unusual and interesting that two ladies bought them there and then and the money went into our group coffers! Marion is going to try and get an idea of the pattern from the lady who made them as they make an elegant frame for the face and neckline. I should have taken a photo of someone wearing one I know but didn't think at the time.

A couple of members took a pair of bamboo needles to try that were amongst the donation of the mountain. I have used bamboo for a long time now and much prefer them but I now use the Symfonie wood ones (on Ebay) which are beautiful to look at and so smooth, a bit like using a fountain pen instead of a biro if understand what I mean.

Right, I will go and do the David Bailey bit and post the photos very soon!

Lovely to see you all last night ladies.

x

As usual, a very enjoyable meeting. We had a good laugh (especially over my antiquated 55year old knitting machine) and managed to knit as well!
Thankyou Lynn being 'in charge' in Abi's absence and thankyou Molly for the delicious cakes and being 'tea lady'!
It was good to meet Chrissie, our new member.
Look forward to seeing EVERYONE in 3 weeks - with loads of goodies no doubt!
Pauline :D

Only took five photos this time as a couple of things that Pauline and I have been working on I haven't photographed as they are things that have been on here before. Last meeting when I said that my sister in law Eileen had made lots more drawstring bags and outer pads I hadn't counted them. When I did I found out there were 80 outer pads! Abi and Pauline both gave me some towels and I made the inner pads for these and then Pauline made me another two dozen bags to put them in. Thanks Pauline, it is nice to be able to post off complete sets.

Right now to this weeks donations. First there is the crochet, scarf, boa type thing that the girls loved which were donated by Marion's friend. They look better on but I am alone this morning so can't give a better idea I am afraid. Shame I didn't have my camera last night as Jeannie modelled it beautifully :D

Image

Next is a mixed donation, my baby blanket and cardigan knitted from donated yarn, Molly's boobs ( :D ) and baby hats from Marion's cousin.

Image

Pauline made this lovely blanket, fluffy scarf and toy balls from the donated yarn, love the colours of the blanket.

Image

Next we have a beautiful baby blanket, two little cardigans and two hats from our Jean. The little white cardigan is so cute.

Image

Julie too has been knitting with yarn from wool mountain and made the pretty baby cardigan. She had also made a bright blanket and a rainbow hat which is delightful. I just love that yarn.

Image

Well done girlies, beautiful work as usual. By tomorrow Pauline, Abi and myself (thanks to Barbara) will be the owners of knitting machines so hopefully we can whip through that wool mountain in no time (well about a year rather than ten!) :D Have to work out how to use it first!

Thanks Lynn for the lovely photos and for writing up our news. It was a great meeting and I actually managed to do some knitting at last. We missed Abi and Mazzy and Margaret, and hope that you're feeling better now Mazzy.

It was lovely to meet our new member Chrissie and to see everyone again and their beautiful donations.

Hope the knitting machine is delivered tomorrow Lynn and it's exciting to think that there will be 3 knitting machines in the Portsmouth group.

Well done everyone.

Molly

Hi Molly,
I agree with everything you said about last night's meeting. I thoroughly enjoyed it and the cake too!
I thought you would like to know that although I didn't actually throw my crochet across the room I have ripped the gloves and will never try to crochet gloves again!
Jean x

Hello ladies.
Sounds like you had a great night, and I'm sorry I couldn't be with you.

Some lovely donations made up from the wool mountain, and wow - 3 knitting machines, fantastic.

I'm starting to get the hang of mine i think, I spent ALL DAY saturday and it drove me insane, so left it sunday and came back to it monday and seemed to be getting there. I have the makings of a nice salmon coloured scarf on ther... better do some more tonight before it gets too late and the neighbours complain about the noise.

Sorry I missed Mollys cakes too, though i did have a pudding whilst out last night and it was very scrummy.

Thanks Lynn for taking over the helm, i really do appreciate it. :D

Hopefully Mazzy is feeling better now, and look forward to seeing you all at the next meeting, if not sooner.

Thanks everyone for making me feel so welcome last night. It felt as though I had always known you all by the end of the evening.
The only reason I can think that I won't make the next meeting is if I have to go to Scotland for work. I will try to avoid it if at all possible but work is work - ho hum..

I have found some wool stashed at home that will probably be good for a few hats and maybe scarves so I will be joining in with the donating as soon as I get this cardi finished.

See you all in August.

Chrissy.

Hi Chrissy

I'm very sorry that I didn't get to meet you last night, but it sounds like you had a good evening.

I spoke to Lynn tonight and she said you were after some yarn - i have lots of balls of wool (as well as all the cones) so if you'd like me to pop over to you or if you'd like to come to me (Gosport) before the next meeting, you can help yourself.

I see from your post you've found some, but if you do need any, or just want to have a rummage, just let me know.

Kind regards

Abi x

We did miss you on Weds, Abi. Glad to see you have mastered the machine at last - I was going to offer to see if I could help. You can still call on me if necessary. You would laugh at my machine - one of the very first ones on the market, back in the early 50's. It's on much the same theme as french knitting with a cotton reel!!! Not as fast as yours but I enjoy it. Am in the process of making strips for a blanket at the moment.
I may have to get in touch re the mateial at some time. Thanks for offering my services with the Harris Tweed - will have to see what I can do if you get it!
Speak to you soon
Pauline :D

Hi everyone at the Portsmouth Loving Hands Group, I wanted to say thank you for my lovely Birthday card from you all. It was such a lovely surprise to receive it. Although I am not able to get to the meetings I feel like one of the members, albeit a 'home member'.
I thought all the photos of the items from the last meeting were beautiful - what a lot of talented people you are!
kind wishes to you all and happy knitting from Sue x :D :D :D :D
