I promise to get the finger out and do this posting on time from this week on.

We had a good meeting last Thursday. Linda McDonald called in with some photos, answered any questions and chatted away to the girlies. She explained to the girlies how she divides the stuff up and all of our donations go to the orphanages for the kids - we are going to do some lap rugs for the elderly in the villages. It is so encouraging to know that everything we donate is distributed exactly where the need is. She is working on funding to send out the container that is waiting to go and another before Christmas. So in the meantime we will be working away on the next donation.

The girlies who made it on Thursday night with myself where, Heather, Jackie, Barbara, Georgina, Pat, Gemma, Anne, Rebecca, Gillian, Jennifer and Maggie (woolie). This was our first week back after our 2 week break and as a result there was fantastic donations.

Heather donated these blankets, vest and top notch hats (plus another 4 blankets which I have forgotten to photograph before putting them in with the others - sorry!!!)



Georgina and her ever faithful hubby have donated these vests and 21 hats (7 a week - keep up the great work):



Georgina also brought a fantastic wool donations, one great charity shop find and another from a car boot sale. Pat shared the cost of either one (can't remember which one - think it was one from the car boot sale):




It was great to see Maggie (woolie) again. She had a great selection of donations and we hope to see again very soon.



Gillian made it down despite having two teeth out and feeling very lousy. She brought with her more wool, squares sewn into a newborn blanket for knit a square and two hats. Her mum has been been helping her with her donations. Hope your mouth is feeling better now - take care.

Girlies - no more holidays and youse work so hard and this report then takes me ages!!! As Linda pointed out the donations given by each and every one of you are priceless. Whether it be one blanket or ten - each one is precious and is going to someone who has nothing at all. Keep up the great work - we are a great team within a great family!!

Goodness me! Such a lot of absolutely beautiful donations. You really are a talented group. How lovely that Linda came to the meet and you were able to ask her questions about her work and where the donations are needed and distributed. I often wonder if the charities are swamped with blankets and the like seeing how much LH knitters produce but reading your post it seems that everything that is sent is very gratefully received and used - no mountains of blankets stockpiling then! This is very good to know and I will continue to knit with renewed vigour

Well done everyone! The donations are brilliant I was completely smitten by the "Snuggle" blankets. Any chance of a pattern please? I have never seen any of those before and we are going to have a new Granchild in early January so it would make a lovely welcome gift. (Must say it needs to be knitted and not crochet as my efforts in that department are still one out of 100 at present!

It was great Linda was able to come and chat to you again - as the girls have said the wonderful thing about all of the charities we donate to from here is that we have good constant contact from them and feedback that tells us what they need and also that our previous items have been duly delivered to the inteneded recipients. I know a lot fo people have been disheatened by some of the really big charities in the past - most of them have now stopped accepting hand knits and some have stockpiles in warehouses waiting to be shipped. We have been very lucky as a lot of these bigger organisations when they have stopped accepting knitted and crocheted items have guided their past contributors to our door - it would be a shame for someone who loves to make things to have to give up due to lack of demand :0)

You are also right Cherryl - it is not the quantity of donations that counts - whether you are able to make bagfulls of items every week or just one or two a year - every item counts and is equally appreciated by the charities - we are a wonderful family and together we can continue to help so many people and animals - I am just so proud of you all :0)

Re Lou's remarks above, I was looking on the Feed the Children site yesterday (coincidentally) to see if they were taking knitting again and they STILL aren't. There is no indication of how much more money they need to raise to send the next container. They are also asking for donations of STs but don't mention the washables idea which is a little disappointing as obviously donations of disposables ain't going to last long Apologies if it is poor etiquette to mention the charity by name but it seems such a shame that they have things sitting in a warehouse especially when they have such a good donation system in place via National Mobile Windscreens who act as drop offs for them. It's good that the other charities are referring people our way though!

Amazingly enough when a lady was donating tools to a group called Tools for Africa the other week she asked the driver if he knew of anywhere she could donate her knits to and he gave her our details - I hadn't even heard of Tools for Africa before that ! :0) The power of the internet and being in the press so often!

Beautiful work again, and yet more different patterns.

I'm intrigued by the ruffly blanket! can you tell me what the pattern is?

Maureen - I will speak to Jackie about the snuggle blankets. I know they are crocheted but will see if she can come up with a knitted version. We are going to put them in the the baby shoeboxes for Blythswood.

Pam - The ruffled blankets are crocheted also by Jackie. I know they are crocheted as a grid then trebles are worked over the grid in 4 treble groups. I have a pattern somewhere that I will get it put onto the forum.
