Hi all, I just love all things knitting, especially buying wool and patterns. I have 3 young children with the youngest at 6 months being my first girl so lots of lovely pink knitting on the go at the mo. I gave up work after my last baby so need something to fill in those spare moments. I love the idea of knitting for children who have very little (unlike mine) and it will give me great pleasure in doing so, and also use up some of my ever-increasing stash! Oh, nearly forgot the boring bits, I'm Sarah and live on the England/Scottish border of Berwick upon Tweed with my husband and 3 children aged 6, 3 and 6 months. Funnily enough I was actually born in Fife (Dunfermline) but left when I was 6. I started knitting when I was 5 and have never stopped (30 years on). Prefer to do childrens clothes or toys as they are finished quicker. Love to hear from all fellow knitters and just now need to decide what to start making.

Hi Knitting Mummy, Welcome to our band of slightly eccentric or totally mad band of knitters! You will have to decide which categary (?) you fall in !!!!
I think we all have our favourite things to knit, I too like baby things as they are quick and easy, SANDS blankets are easy to do while watching tele as they dont require a lot of thought Boobs are a bit of fun but a good cause. I'm not much good at toys as they nearly always end up a bit wobbly. But what ever you decide to do you can rest assured that Lou will always find it a good home.
Best Wishes Archers Addict (The program and the drink)

Hello knitting mummy and welcome.

Whatever you decide to knit, and there`s lots of free patterns on the web - you`ll be spoilt for choice - it will be appreciated somewhere. Be it home or abroad, Lou will find a special place for it. As you say, it`s nice to be able to give some help to less fortunate kiddies than our own.

Look forward to hearing more from you on here in between knitting.

Elaine.
ps. before you get too engrossed in the knitting, can you send me your favourite recipe/s - absolutely anything - for our Loving Hands recipe book. We`re trying to raise some money for postage funds and this is one of our projects.

 Like knitting mummy I learned to knit at the age of five. I'm a left hander so I cast on a bit different to most. I have a degree in knitwear design and when I graduated I was a freelance handknit pattern designer , so when writing patterns had to remember to write them for right handers.

Welcome Sarah

You certainly have your hands full with your young family but knitting is normally relaxing, (unless you are struggling with a pattern) so it is an excellent way to unwind.

Look forward to seeing more post from you in the future.

Hi Sarah, and welcome to LH. I'm not sure that knitting for LH will reduce your stash of wool. Mine has grown by leaps and bounds since I joined in January, because I'm always on the look-out for bargains now!
Nice to meet you,
Karen

I agree with Karen. Knitting for Loving Hands definately does not reduce your wool stash. I hadn't knitted for years until I joined L.H. now I am on always on the look out for cheap wool. I have found some of the Charity shops do good new yarn in a good variety of colours but probably not wool but acrylic.Only yesterday I got 4 balls of shaggy wool in a pretty pale pink in our newly opened 99p shop in Sidcup that will make some one a warm scarf. Or does any one have a pattern for one of those pretty shoulder capes that I saw recently in the donations photos that Lou posts?

Hi Sarah

Welcome on board!! I'm so envious of you living in Berwick upon Tweed!!! I love it there I call it my second home and am seriously considering moving up there in a few years time. I spent a lot of my childhood holidays there and have been back the last 3 years. I live in Suffolk by the way but am always excited to go back North.

Anyway, I'm sure you will love this site everyone is great and it's lovely to be able to chat about knitting!

Alison xx

Hi Sarah

Welcome to L.H. When I joined I thought my stash of wool would go down but just the opposite has happened - I can't think why!!!
Enjoy your knitting.

Love Jane

Thank you for all the welcoming comments. Evelyn I too am a leftie but to be honest I don't know if I knit left or right handed as my mother is LH as well and I haven't seen RH people knit. I just know I get a result.
Re all comments about stashes, I too like finding bargains on the wool front and think my supply will grow!!

Hi Sarah
Welcome to Loving Hands. I have just gone back to knitting recently and love doing stuff for the charities. I live in Fife and am able to go to the meetings at Kelty - Lou even gives me a lift, don't know if its to make sure I get there. Good to have someone from Berwick on the forum. I have three sons and we had a static caravan at the hoiday centre for about 12 years. Instead of buying another caravan we bought a small flat in Castlegate. You got to it up the side of the old jobcentre. Had to give it up when the boys got bigger as they wouldn't go with us and we didnt feel we could trust them home alone. I would love to go back even for a day but my husband won't as he misses it so much.

Is the little wool shop still in Castlegate. I never used it as I wasn't into knitting at that time but always looked in the window.

I am sure you must be enjoying knitting for your little girl, when my third was a boy I thought I better stop.

Need to go and get on but thinking about all the great pies we used to get from Fairbairns. I also loved the little ashets of macaroni.

Sorry for waffling.

Jean.
