Can anyone help, I have a pattern for a crochet teddy ( pattern on www.allfreecrafts.com by Kathy Wilson of grandmas hookery)
which says
"Do not join rounds. Mark first stitch of each round"
then the pattern is all in rounds...do they mean rows.. I can't see how to work in rounds and not join them, I'm a really basic crocheter but can usually figure out patterns but this is defeating me.

Please can anyone help before i turn into quivering goo

thanks
Nessa

Hi Nessa - this is a technique called "Amigurumi" - and is worked in spirals...that is why you do not join the round. Normally, when you crochet a round you would insert a slip stitch into the first stich to connect the round in an even line. Under the Amigurumi method you mark the first stitch ( I use a different coloured strand of wool) and when you complete the round you continue by inserting your next stitch into the first one instead of joining with a slip stitch. This gives a spiral effect as you go round and round spiralling upwards each time. The reason you mark the first stitch is so that you know where you began as you will probably be required to increase the number of stitches in the row and won't know where you started. This also prevents getting any "seams". Hope I've explained it clearly for you. Good luck with your project. Lorraine

Slow & steady Nessa - that's the secret. Well done Maureen - sounds like your crochet skills are coming on a treat. Go on...have another Pernod. (Hope I don't get in trouble with your twin!)
