Hi all - I finished one of the poppies yesterday - they are small & fun to do (little things please little minds ha ha) But i have a problem with the centre - it seems to scrunch up so much & does not want to lay flat - I spent a good half hour wrestling with it (hmmmm) - if you dont scrunch it up it leaves a hole - so I sort of sewed up the hole (thats why i said I had finished one but was hoping to do better next time - any thoughts from all you experienced knitters ????
Thanks Jaqui xxx

I bet a black button would look perfect too Do - clever you xx They are asking for poppies and you can use any means to make them - we have had a couple of knitted and crocheted patterns suggested already and I am sure there will be lots more as well xx

hello everyone,
The poppies can definitely have a little button and please please do use other patterns .If you think it looks good then others will and I'm sure they will sell like hot cakes.(I'm going to nip to the wool shop and see if i can get some black fluffy feathery type wool for the middle ) The patterns of the other poppies are looking great and I'm going to try those too.
Thank you for all your help

Well I have just been knitting flowers for beanie hats and I'm sure if I do them in red and add a black button they will look great, plus they are only three rows and finished. Dot

How do you do them Dot ? I`ve been trying a few different variations but haven`t found one I really like yet. Maybe I`m just too fussy.

Right girls, sorry I have only just spotted your remarks re small poppy. This is the pattern

Cast on 40 stitches
First row Knit
Second row Purl
Third row: Knit 8 pass first 7 stitches over last stitch knitted, repeat to end of row.
Break off yarn and thread through remaining 5 stitches and pull up tightly.
Sew side seam.
As these are sized for a beanie hat if you have a medium/large shank black button it would make
a perfect centre and I think they will make a good size for the kids to wear.
What do you all think :?: Dot

I have just done 3 poppies from prfungi's crochet pattern (thanks Pam!) and they look pretty good.
DH is my benchmark (not easily impressed by anything yarn-y) and he said they were really good and definitely recognised them as poppies - woohoo!
Just need a supply of safety pins now!

Dear k2tog,
Thanks for doing the poppies i am not brave or experienced enough to try to crochet any.
All i get out of Andrew is(with absolutely no interest at all ) "yep they look good" he does try .
I can't complain he buys me wool.
As for the safety pins you dont need to put those on. Ally is planning on buying those in bulk when all the poppies are in and attaching them later.
Thanks
love em
