Hi everyone
I've just joined this site this week, and I'm enjoying it so much. I've managed to get some fabulous wool today at my local shop for 20p a 50g ball - I think they're selling off end of batches, and I'm going back tomorrow to get some more before it all goes. I've started a scarf with it today.
I got the knitted boob pattern today in the post from Lou (thank you, Lou!) and will also be getting some nice pale peach wool tomorrow to make a start on them.
What I really want to know (after waffling a bit - sorry!) I'd really like to make some squares for blankets - I have a fair bit of brightly coloured DK wool which isn't really suitable for baby things - could someone please give me an idea how many stitches, how many rows and what size needles?I'd much rather make them the same size as everyone elses, which makes life much easier for whoever has to match them all up. Any suggestions very gratefully received!!
Thank you!

HI Kath

This is what Lou gave me for the blanket squares.

6" squares

you cast on 4 sts then first row is k2 yfwd k to end. You repeat this row until you are at the halfway mark then do one row with no shaping. After that it is k2 k2tog yfwd k2tog k to end until you have just 4 stitches left then cast off!

It is pretty easy.

Hi Kath,
I'm doing 6" squares too, but I'm knitting straight. 30 sts on 4mm needles seems to work for me. I guess it just depends what tension you knit to.
What I'm wondering is what size a lap blanket is (and please don't anyone say it depends on the size of your lap!!!) Can anyone help with this?

Hi Julie
thank you for that - I'll give it a go and check the size on a test square. Sorry I can't help you with the lap thing - I have no idea either!!

Sorry forgot to put the needle size. It is 4 mm.

If I remember correctly the halfway mark is when one side measures 6 inches Kath.

hi everybody thanks for warm welcome!
i have just started crocheting squares, haven`t picked up crochet needle for years but i`m really enjoying it. i`m making them 7x7 as that is size that is requested on another group i joined that makes blankets for elderly.
i`ve also made a teddy which may go to to spring challenge as it seems to be a similar cause to teddies for tragedies.
i used to knit lots of toys but don`t seem to have so much patience now to do fiddly things ,especially having trouble with faces!!

We find most lap rugs that are sent in are around 36" square girls 6' x 4' is more of a single bed size and great for overseas to keep the children warm :0)

Thanks for that Lou.
I was wondering if I had the patience to knit a whole 6'x4' rug before I got bored with it. You're much more likely to get a 3'x3' rug from me.

Hi Kath - re sizes of the blankets...if you look at "Important - please read first", then Wish Lists....you'll see the items that are required and that we make to support our charities. The sort of sizes are also listed - so you may find this a useful source of information.
