Just got home after visiting Lou this afternoon. She's looking good and it was great to see her. All your cards and messages are on the walls of her room where she can see them and the staff are amazed at the numbers.

She's being very well looked after and seems to be gently roping some of the staff into knitting - giving them an easy intro with scarves I believe!!! She's busy knitting boobs herself and has almost finished a blanket as well. Very pleased that everything in Loving Hands is running along so smoothly. Kelly is hoping to give us a progress report soon on how we're doing with the challenges so we'll know where we need to increase our work load!! September already!!!

Please send out all your positive thoughts to Lou tomorrow when she goes back to theatre to have all last week's skin grafts checked to see how they are taking. Let's hope that everything is healing well and the next phase can start soon. Lou will be mightily pleased to get back to her own bed without those horrible plastic pillow and mattress covers that make you sweat so much - anyone who's been in hospital for more than a day or two can well sympathise with that. Hospital beds are definitely not designed for comfort!!

I'll visit again next week and update you on her progress.

Lots of love
Kate :D :D :D :D

That's great news that Lou is back knitting again soon our meetings will be bursting at the seams when she recruits everyone from the hospital.

I'll definitely be thinking about her tomorrow when she goes into theatre.

Lesley

Fantastic news and I think we all know what an incredible woman Lou is. I will certainly be thinking of her today when she goes into theatre and I hope that all goes well for her. Also thinking of her family and everything they are having to go through.

Molly

It was a terrible thing Charlotte - in July last year I slipped in the bath and cut my cheek - went to the local a&e and got 30 sts put in it and thought no more about it - went home and finished packing for our holiday. 48 hours later I was back in intensive care in a coma and fighting for my life. I had contracted necrotising faciitis (the flesh eating bug). I spent 3 weeks in a coma and when I woke up discovered they had taken my forehead, left side of my face and head and left eye and cheekbone. I am exremely lucky that I am still alive and I can still see, drive and look after LH. Bit by bit they are working on my reconstruction - they rotated part of my scalp to make a new forehead and at present the skin on my face used to be on my leg :0) Next op is going to raise a flap from the top of my chest (using the skin and pectoral muscles) he will raise it and lay it back down for about 6 weeks to establish a good blood supply then he will open my face again and attach the flap to my cheek (leaving it connected to the blood supply from my throat area) this will mean I will then spend another 6 weeks attached to my chest. Finally he will seperate the two bits and take more skin from my other leg to cover the hole left in my chest. I will then have a few months to recover before they start on the next bits. Sounds pretty graffic I know but it will be worth it in the end if I get a better finish :0) Move over Bionic Woman - Bionic Lou is coming

Hi Lou,
Just been reading what happened to you last year, slowly but surely finding my way round this forum site. What you went through must have been awful, as well as worrying. No wonder your new name is Bionic Lou!!!
Here's me with a tooth problem that dosn't seem to be getting right, and I have been moaning about tooth ache, thats the least of my worries now after reading about your problem.
I hope all goes well with what further treatment you have to go through and I will be thinking of you.
Got lots of things sorted out to knit now, Ive bagged up wool and a pattern and put them in order to do, (one at a time), but knowing me I will have about 3 on the go at once.
I went to my local wool shop last week and it was packed with people buying wool etc, and guess what, I bought some wool!!!
I keep saying I am not buying anymore, but I'm addictive!!!
Well better be off now, dentist this afternoon - arghhhh!!! Then it will be back to the knitting.
Keep well Lou, and good luck with further treatment. :D
