I know a lot of us knit for other groups as well as LH so I thought I'd mention this one. I went to visit some friends in Devon at the weekend and on Saturday we went to shopping centre called Atlantic Village near Bideford.
In the foyer there was a knitting group who are doing a project called "Above and Below The Waves" which will be a tunnel with fish, starfish, coral, seaweed etc and above there will be rocks, a lighthouse, boats, beach etc. These will all be knitted and it will be displayed around the country to raise money for the RNLI - a very good cause I hope you will agree. If you look at
www.bhkc.co.uk/data/knitting_for_charity_09.htm it explains it a bit more. There is a link to some patterns but they are happy for people to use others. The tunnel will be big enough to walk inside so this is a huge project. They said that if they have too many items, as happened with their last project, they sell them when they do the displays and the money will also go to the RNLI.
Their previous project was a knitted gingerbread house - about the size of a garden shed! which was to raise money for Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital and it was even displayed in Europe. There is a small article about the project in the latest edition of Simply Knitting.
Hope you like the idea
