Hi all,

Found out about your wonderful efforts/site over on MSE and I am really pleased to be able to join in with you all.

I was born and raised in central Scotland, but have definitely got the wanderlust - lived in Italy, South coast of England (yep I too know Portsmouth & Gosport), have lived in France for the last 15 years and thoroughly enjoy it.

Learned to knit with my Mammie, Grannie taught me to sew but as Mammie hated sewing up, my sister and me got that job, taught myself crochet from a book - so I am not very good at that but I do show willing.

I have hunted high and low for the last couple of days for the wool I know that I have as well as the knitting needles - well they are in a box somewhere and no doubt will turn up one day.

I did find some awful grass green wool and some bits and bobs of weird coloured wool as well as one crochet hook - so I have done two dog/cat blankets - they ain't that brilliant but if your a dog and your cold I expect they will be just jim dandy. Wonder what the sailors would look like in green hats - it might just come to that.

That's it for the night, I shall hunt again tomorrow and see if I can find some soft pastel wool and a range of needles.
Night Night
Jean

Hello Jean

Welcome to the forum.

How lovely that you have been able to travel around as you have.

I'm part of the Portsmouth contingent, and have lived in Gosport now for far too long... even as I'm typing i'm thinking, I really should explore more.

I think the sailors and some of the old folk out in the Eastern European countries we support will be pleased of your hats, regardless of the color so you go girl! :D

Abi x

Lindi Lou, Abi, Karen and Lou

Many thanks to you all for your very kind words of welcome - feels good to be a part of the LH family.

Still no further with the needle/yarn hunt but I did find the knitting machines, so perhaps I need to spend next week cleaning and oiling them and then I can get cracking.

I hope to get to the PO tomorrow and get the two dog blankets away to you. Then it's sailor hats..............pity the poor sailors.

Abi, I used to live in Warsash and prior to moving here lived in Lee-On-Solent - loved the seaside so much I now live in very rural France! Good luck with your Portsmouth meetings, I am sure that the more that hear of it then the more will turn up. After all didn't I read lately that knitting is the new Rock 'n' Roll. LOL

If you are in need of needles and yarn let me know Jean and I will send a box over to you - can't have you all fired up and ready to go with nothing to use :0)

Lou, many thanks for the offer of wool and needles - but please save your money for better causes than me..........I only need some time to sort through the junk in the barn and I will come up trumps, I could also just go and find a SHOP eh('')

Just been told by my DH that the PO is closed today - bummer I spent the lunch time looking for an envelope big enough to take the two dog blankets and some used stamps I had (always keep my used stamps - someone is always grateful for them) so looks like it will be tomorrow for the post. Och what's an other day in the grand scheme of things.

Abi, my DH has just suggested that I drive the 6 hours to the ferry terminal get on the boat and arrive in Portsmouth about 9 pm to go to your meeting - don't laugh he was serious, he also said that he had a big list of "stuff" I could be getting for him while I was there, so if you need to swell the numbers I can be the extra body! Yep he is a laugh a minute.

Hi Jean

Welcome to Loving Hands.
Where are you exactly in France? We have a house just outside Villiedieu de Poeles, we didn't get over much last year but I'm hoping to spend a few months at the house this year. Our dogs have passports so they go too. We love it over there, once the childrens have flown the nest we will sell up over here and move over there permanently.

Best Wishes
Sian

Hi Sian,

Nice to be made so welcome. I've managed to get started on the oiling and cleaning of one of the knitting machines and weather permitting-fingers crossed as it needs to rain I will l have a go at the ribber.

I did find loads of pastel 4 ply so I have something to work towards in the coming weeks. I live about half an hour west of Pontivy in central Britany, right out in the middle of no where, but its just what we like. I see that I come right past you on that fast road I take up to Le Havre.

You are all a lovely bunch of people and I am so glad I found you.

Oh that made me laugh    a lot!

You know Jean, that sounds like a fab idea. If ever you have a spare 12 hours for a round trip - oh and lets not forget the 2 hours of knitting and crocheting - you are definitely welcome.

I'll email you my shopping list and you can email me yours.... :D

Hello and welcome Jean. I have just got home from a week in Spain so I have missed all our newcomers. Loved reading your posts and the bit about getting across to the Portsmouth Group (Encouraged by husband) so I wondered...... How about getting up here to Yorkshire for an elongated type day trip and you could call in here and meet me and we could knit for 5 minutes then you could go back home or I could give you a bed for the night if you wanted it . The possibilities are endless!
Love Mad Maureen X

Hi Maureen
Great idea, I could just call in to you on my way to Scotland to visit the family, firstly tho' I need to knit enough to warrant my trip-dropping of a box of things for Lou on the way, secondly I will have to save up all my pennies to buy the pantechnicon, why I hear you say because I will have to load it with all the wine, onions, smelly cheese and garlic that am I certain Abi will want me to take to her, but yes I am up for it. And they call you Mad Maureen ?
I expect I could call in at various other little places of interest along the way.
Thanks for the welcome tho' I do appreciate it, now I shall go and do some knitting, that should keep me out of trouble for a while.
Jean in France
xx
