While out on our narrow boating holiday we visited the Sands garden at the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas in Staffordshire. It is very peaceful and emotive, there are lots of shrubs and a winding path outlined with large pebbles all with the names of babies on them, some with 40 year old dates on them. Showing how these babies are never forgotten. In the center of the garden is a marble plinth with a granite sculpture of a curled up baby on it. Set in the grass nearby is a large glass tear. It very much brings home to you the sadness that some families have to bear. It makes you feel that just knitting a blanket is such a small thing to do.
I have tried to add some photos to this and also got my son to have a go but neither of us had any luck.
I have finished one SANDS blanket Lou and will have it in the post early next week. It was nice to have some easy knitting to do that doesn't require toomuch thought, so I have started another one , hope you will still be able to use it.
Loved all the new Challenges, might try some toys but not all that good at things that require stuffing except I like doing boobs!!!!!

How lovely that you managed to visit the memorial garden - it sounds really good - why don't you email your pics to me and I will try to post them on here for you :0) I am sure everyone would love to see them :0)

Yes we are going to continue making Sands blankets - as the email said they are still needing them :0)

It makes me go shivery thinking of all those grieving parents. I haven’t been able to make a start on sands blanket. But after hearing about that garden. I will try and make one this challenge. Just to try and bring them a little love, and comfort. S. S
