Ladies

Unfortunately we've had to stop the Bridge of Don meetings. I will be unable to attend the meetings to the same extent next year and Elaine is unable to take on responsibility for it due to a change in circumstances. Mag is also finding it a bit too far for her to have to travel with her aches and pains bless her and with winter coming as well, it will be even harder for her.

As there were only 3 of us at the last meeting myself, Mag and Isobel, we really don't think it is worth carrying it on. So i've taken the decision to cancel the last three meetings we had planned for this year and we will not be running a group in Aberdeen next year.

The Stonehaven group will continue as usual and i will try and make it along to as many of those meetings as i can, work permitting.

Lou can you please change the title of our group section to whatever you think is best, 'Stonehaven' or 'Aberdeenshire'.

Thanks for all your support throughout the year, it has been much appreciated.

Alana

I agree we can all keep in touch via the web, you gave it a go, but it was not to be. Never Mind. I wish there was a meeting near me. But I live in the sticks. Miles from anywhere in silly Suffolk. As I don’t drive. I rely on the net. What do they say? Nothing ventured nothing gained. You gave it your best shot. Hugs Pat

What a shame ! But it is sensible to cancel when circumstances dictate. We shall all miss hearing about your meetings but we shall still know all about you and your donations via the Forum. Keep in touch everyone.
Lots of love to you all,
Mad Maureen X

You'll still hear all about the Stonehaven group from Mag and i will be attending those meetings till the end of the year as i already have that time booked off. Plus as you say all three of us will still be on the forum - so you ain't getting rid of us that easy

Can see how difficult it must be for you all to ''connect''. Checked the map & found you are well scattered. However hope we will all still be in touch. Best wishes to all. Do.xx

Thanks to all at Stonehaven group for the big box of lining fabric you sent me. I have used it to line the waistcoats I made. So it came from S/haven & went back to Fife last week, well travelled fabric.! Many thanks , Do.

Sad to hear that you have had to close the group but quite understand with the distance involved. We will still hear the news through the Forum and you won't be forgotten.

Molly

For the size of Aberdeen it is sad that the knitting group never really got of the ground, but I will do everything I possibly can to strengthen the Stonehaven group.

Thanks everyone for your support,

Mag x :)

I was thining to just leave the title as Aberdeen and Shire for the time being - as Stonehaven group grows and prospers we may find other ladies within the city limits who would like to try to get a group there off the ground. As Mag says it is a very big area and I am sure there are loads of very competent stitchers up there we just haven't found yet :0) Hopefully we will find one or two who have more time on their hands than Alana and Elaine and who would be willing to give group Leadership a try - I am sure Mag, Cherryl and Abi would agree it is definitely lots of fun (as well as loads of work :0)

I'm sorry to hear that you have had to disband the Bridge of Don group. It is lots of fun, but lots of work and a big commitment, so i fully appreciate your decisions. I'm very lucky to have Lynn doing lots for me down here, or I would seriously struggle.

I was sorry that I couldn`t take over the Bridge of Don group but the time wasn`t really suitable for me now. I have my grandson after he finishes nursery at 11.15am until his mum picks him up at 2.00. It would have meant an awful lot of running around for her to collect him and be back to pick his sister up from school which is just 5 mins from my house. It was OK when the group started, he went in at 12.30 and my afternoons were my own as his mum collected him.
I`ll still try to get to Stonehaven now and again, or even just meet up with Mag and Alana sometimes for a blether.

We`ll maybe be able to get something else started at a more suitable time - I always wondered if the time of 1 - 3pm put people off coming - but that was the only time the hall was available. Have to see what we can do.

Elaine.

Elaine we had discussed holding it in the evening instead as we thought that might allow more people to attend, but that wasn't a great option for us either as you work in the evenings and we wanted us all to be able to attend, hence we went for Balgownie Community Centre and you're right the only time we could get it was from 1-3 in the afternoon. I don't think the time is an issue as the Stonehaven one is 1:30 to 3:30 but I do think more time and effort needs to go into attracting new members, something that i've not had the time to do whilst working all week. As i said before fortunately Mag already new a lot of people that knit in Stonehaven and that's why she's managed to get a really good group together.

My freecycle requests have gained us a few members Grace, Isobel and Arlene who fortunately are happy to head out to Stonehaven instead. So that would be a good advertising route for setting up any future group.

I think an evening group may draw more people, but again it's the advertising and recruitment that needs the time and effort.

Fingers crossed that someone will be able to get something up and running in the future as there are plenty of knitters out there, it's just a case of finding them

I agree it does need work to attract new members, and although classed disabled, I am always out there on the go and sticking up the odd posters at different times and talking to anyone that asks how I am and what I'm doing. These people won't turn up if they don't know, same as all the donations of yarn, material etc. It has all come from advertising LH by word of mouth and on Freecycle. We could do it, but I'm not able to do it along with Stonehaven. One day a miracle may happen and I will be able to get over there and do something, but not at present. Sorry folks.

Mag x :)
