Found a lovely granny square that has very few holes (more solid) so I'm using up my little bits of stash to make a colourful lap rug. Two 5 1/2 squares completed so far.

Also I found some simple squares I acquired which I'll sew together into a rug as well.

Hello

I used to do lap blankets for homes but I used to do squares in strips (if that makes sense!) so all I had to do was cast off and on each colour for each square to make the strip and then it still looks like coloured squares but you don't have to sew each individual one together just each stip

What a great idea! I am just beginning my crochet journey so I might give that a try!
Thanks.

Or you could eliminate the sewing altogether & do a giant granny, then you only have the ends to weave in!

Super blanket, but can I see a long hair chow creeping out of the picture?

Hi,

I've seen the appeal for the Addis Abbaba Shawls/blankets for the Fistual hospital so I'm trying out the squares in strips technique. Their leaflet asks for 6" squares but if you put 33 stitches on no.8 needles and knit approx. 60 rows I've discovered they are knitting up much larger than 6". Anyway the overall size should be 6 x 8 squares and measure 36" x48".

I want to join the Stonehaven group, perhaps one of you ladies can get in touch, many thanks. :)

Hello Sue, and I guess welcome. What a lovely surprise to see Stonehaven mentioned. You have just missed our gathering for September but we will look forward to meeting up with you October 23 in the Resource Centre if the time is suitable. I am sure you will enjoy being part of our group. I will pm you with my phone number shortly.

Happy knitting. Mag x :)

Hi Sue

Welcome to the group. It would be great if you are able to make it to the Stonehaven meetings, we have a fantastic time and a great giggle. The meetings are roughly once a month on a Friday from 1:30 to 3:30 but Mag will fill you in with all the details.

Take care x

Hi,
I've just been admiring the large 'Granny Square' lap blanket. I'd love to make one. I can only do basic crochet, and have indeed made small granny squares in the past. However, once I get to a certain size the edges of the blanket seem to go wobbly - almost as though I could do with putting a tuck in the centre to draw it in - and the bigger the square gets the wobblier the sides get! Any hints or tips on what I'm doing wrong?
Best wishes

Possibly too many chains, or maybe just a loose tension. The one in the pic has 3tr, ch3, 3tr in each corner & 3tr, ch1 down the sides. I made sure I did a nice firm edge which I think helps too.

x Rosie
