Hey everyone, have just joined this site. Haven't done any knitting in about 4 years but need something to keep my hands busy to give up the demon cigarettes! After flicking through this site though i'm itching to get started again :D

Welcome to Loving hands. You will get plenty of support here. I recommend you find a pattern that is a bit tricky. Something, to get the mind into. What else do you like doing? I have just finished a mans pullover for one of the charities we knit for. It was the biggest thing I have ever knitted. I am just starting another. Keep up the good work. Just think of all that lovely money you will be saving.

I really got back into knitting when I stopped smoking (over 2 years ago now and one of the best decisions of my life :D )

Good luck with it, you certainly won't regret it. Plus think of all the extra money you'll have to spend on lovely wool!

Thanks for the encouragement, i'm really looking forward to starting knitting again. I've found a lovely pattern for a lacy baby blanket, bought some wool and now canny find my bag of knitting needles...doh!!! I've recently moved and dunno if i got rid of them or not. Found a good bundle of various different sizes on ebay so i'm gonna order that. What's the bets the bag of needles i had turns up AFTER i've bought this lot from ebay lol

Have you ordered the needles yet? if not try any local charity shops, they are a great place for needles, hooks, and wool/yarn. and we all like a bargain. lol

Hi Michelle and welcome to our group. Glad to hear you have stopped smoking.. I stopped almost 4 years ago and it was not easy but it is possible and you will do it if you think positive. Keeping your hands busy is a very good way of keeping off the ciggies! I had a plastic ciggy that I "Smoked" at my worst moments...but it did not contain nicotine or anything it was simply a plastic fag! I must admit I did once light it without thinking! I also bit the end off one in a bad moment...but I got by and so will you. Good Luck.
Love Mad Maureen X

Thanks for the invite cherryl, i'll do my best to make it. I'm sure you girls will have some great tips for me, where to find patterns and such like.
As for bargains silver surfer I got 500g of DK today for £4! I was well pleased. Pulled out all my cupboards this afternoon and canny find the bag of needles i had so will have a wee wander round some charity shops tomorrow...hope it stays dry :-)
Had to laugh at the thought of you lighting yer plastic fag maureen haha and then about you chomping on it made me giggle even more. I'm going to the docs on monday to get patches and hopefully should have needles and be knitting by then too so monday is stopping smoking day!
If there is a wee man upstairs listening then please , please, please be gentle with me on Monday...don't need any stress lol

Hi Chelle
Welcome to LH, hope you enjoy taking part in the challenges and the friendship of the rest of the gang as much as I do. I hadn't knitted for about 10 years when I joined a year ago - as they say , its like riding a bike, you never forget - but then you haven't seen me wobbling down the street trying to change gear! Keep your eyes open for the Winter challenge due to be announced today.
Good luck & happy knitting
Jacqui
