Here is some info about the new charity in our quarterly challenges

Hi Kate,

Great to hear you'd like to get involved, thank you!

Patterns can be downloaded from the website but if you have any problems please email me on [email protected] and I'll email them to you.

There are some important things to note please:

• No zips, poppers or buttons as a way of fastening.
• Cotton/poly cotton material only please and the brighter the better! (No silk, satin, denim, corduroy or ‘see-through’ material, and preferably no white material)
• Pockets and trimmings are great but not necessary.
• All seams/ hems must be turned over twice or over-locked.
• All items must be MACHINE sewn please including the attachment of the straps to the dresses.
• We would be very grateful if they could be washed (even if material is new) and all seams and straps double checked for fraying/gaps before sending.

We try to send a shipment every month (subject to finances) and our average shipping costs are £120.00 per shipment so donations are also very welcome.

When you are ready please send them to:

Little Dresses for Africa - UK
2 Leek Road
Cheadle
Staffordshire
ST10 1JF

Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions. Good luck and let us know how you're getting on!

Best wishes, Nicole x

She has also said that we don't need to size the dresses or tie the straps as that is done before shipping :)

Thanks Kate, that's great info I find it's much better to know exactly what is required, so it's off to check the fabric stash and let's get started :D

Hopefully we can add them to the charities list, just want to make sure they fit all our criteria :)

That's KateG I've printed off details to pass to Eunice on Monday at Whitchurch, hopefully her hand is well enough to start sewing again

Nice to see this sewing challenge on the list. The Desford (Leicestershire) branch has been making these since we formed in 2011. We have sent them to various outlets eg, charities which work in hot countries, as well as taking them directly ourselves to orphanages in Tanzania and Namibia.
For our annual 'Sewathon' to celebrate UN 'Day of the Girl' in October, we invite the 'A' level textile students from our local Academy to join us in a mad day of stitching to make dresses which we then add to skirts and shorts to send off. They are all lovely and different. The advice given is good. No one wants to wear sticky synthetic in sky-high temperatures.
Good luck with the challenge.
