Hi Em,
Will those injured in the conflict be included?
They were not mentioned on the challenge list, although no longer able to fight they are still part of the Afghanistan conflict, their battle will continue here at home to cope with the change to there lives, to them and their families.
I felt I needed to ask this question after watching a program on 2 of these brave and courageous lads.
Jean

Dear Jean,
I wish i could have watched the program but i couldn't because i knew i would get too too upset.
The exhibition will be the fist ever patriotic knitting exhibition and it is in aid of the charity afganheroes (this has recently been set up by a group of mothers who have lost their children in Afghanistan )
They have two phases planned
In the first phase of their mission they seek to deliver:

Front Line Support:
* To support all our service personnel operating in theatre in Afghanistan.
* To provide the much needed “home comfort“ supplies and gifts to those service personnel.
* To promote and embrace a new initiative “Thank A Soldier” to ensure our soldiers know they are not alone.
On the home-front:
* Support groups for the families of the fallen.
* Regional network groups.

The second phase of their mission is to help those who have returned from Afghanistan to overcome difficulties by:
Support for the Returning Troops:
* With the intention of providing emotional, psychological help through support groups for all returning soldiers and families of the fallen.
* Help with vocational training, including: IT equipment, computers and printers.

All of this is totally dependant on how much money can be raised.Thankfully there are many people willing to help and they are all doing many different things so every little bit helps.

Hi Em,
Thanks for reply! It is nice that so much support is given to them and their families.
I shall be knitting as many cupcakes as I can and some squares.
Jean

Don't worry Em - we are going to keep the list for this open till June so we can collect as many Poppies and Cakes as possible so the girlies (and boys) can keep right on clicking and make as many as they can xxx

Fantastic challenge. I watched the programmed "Wounded" and we will be supporting this challenge. Jackie has mastered the cupcakes and we will be using her knowledge to our advantage.

Keep up the great work girlies,

Cherryl xx

That's great Em, well done.

I live in the same street as Erskine Home which is for ex-servicemen and women in a residential setting in Glasgow.

I will be making poppies and squares for you.

Hi Em,
If we knit hats, scarves and things in red white and blue are they going to be sold to raise funds? Also what about tea cposies and things?
Just asking as this is what I thought I'd make towards this part of the challenge.

love, Barbara xx

Dear Barbara,
I think the idea of knitting pretty tea cosys is a great idea and i think they would sell really well and would be a great addition.(i'm knitting elephant egg cosys at the moment ,along with all the rest of the bits on needles i have on the go)But now i know i will be looking for tea cosy patterns tonight to try.
As long as you find them pretty then others will too and then they will definitely sell
The only problem with knitting hats and scarves for this challenge is the Union Jack tour starts in June . If the tour was going to run into the winter they would have been perfect.
thanks for all your help and your fabulous idea about tea cosys
em :D

I am sure it will take them a few months to get all round the country though Em so the hats and scarves will be perfect for the end of the trip :0) My ladies up here are really hoping the tour will come close to Fife so we can get to go and see it for ourselves - it will definitely be in our calendar to have a trip out when it is here xx
