Well it must have been stay at home day here today. The number of folk through the door was, to my mind, very low. Moira, who does some knitting for us, said it was busier than last year though. Wouldn`t have liked to have been there last year is all I can say !!

The folk who were in weren`t willing to part with their cash either.
Our sale today only made a profit of £35 (once the fee was paid) and was very disappointing. DD did say it was better than nothing and at least we covered the cost of the table - that was me told off !!

The cats protection stalls were the only ones who were busy. They had tombola, bottle stall and tea and cake tables. None of the other stallholders seemed to be very busy. The poor girl next to us only made £8.50 - and she spent £10 with us, so definitely wasn`t any richer.

Hopefully the one at Stonehaven will be busier.

Off to do some knitting with the Thorntons toffee near at hand to cheer myself up. Shouldn`t really as it will knock the blood sugar sky high and I`ll probably suffer for it tomorrow.

Elaine.

Hello Elaine

I think £35 profit is pretty good ! :D

Its been half term here & it is Halloween today, so maybe people had already spent their money on something else ?

I think you deserve a few "brownie points" for your efforts

Elaine,

£35 in this financial situ should be applauded! Am sure you put lots of effort into it and £35 can go a long way!

I have promised to knit an aran cabled jacket and hood for a toddler for December - have only managed 15 rows so far!! If you know of anyone who would kindly knit it for me (I have wool and pattern), I will donate £15 towards your fund!

That would make your total to £50!

Ellie xx

Well done Elaine £35 is better than nothing - I know you must have put a lot of work and time into it - but money that was'nt there before. It's a very difficult time of year "Christmas" !!!! is starting to kick in.
Well done and have a rest tomorrow Sunday.
Lots of love :D

Don't beat yourself up about it Elaine - as the girls have said at least you made a profit :0) When I did the 'big' table sale at the hospital in Kirkcaldy I came away with the princely sum of £2 after paying the £25 table fee so you did really well compared to that :0) As the girls have said have a nice rest tomorrow and hopefully Mags table at Stonehaven will fare better - you will have lots left from your table to boost her stocks and with Christmas looming maybe more people will want to buy then :0) Don't overdo it on the toffee - we wouldn't want you to be unwell :0)

I think you did very well Elaine and at least made a profit. I think in these difficult times money is tight and people aren't spending so much so give yourself a well deserved pat on the back.

Molly

Hi Elaine,
Job well done, :) you never know how things are going to turn out on the day.
I use to do Car Boots years ago, some times you came home with nothing hardly cover the petrol getting there and yet others times it was well worth going,so don't blame yourself.
Chin up and out of those nasty toffee  you know you really don't like them

Elaine - well done on your efforts and I am glad you made a profit.

I know where you are coming from as I am getting a bit anxious about our forthcoming sales. It is hard to know what people will be wanting to buy and I don't think they even consider how much effort goes into every item.

Keep up the great work,

Cherryl xx

Like the others have said, £35 is pretty good. I've done sales and car boots and come home out of pocket before now so a good profit like that, you should be v proud of yourself!

Sorry you were disappointed by the low turnout at the sale after all your efforts Elaine. 35 squid is a good few parcels or wool supplies though especially when times are so hard so don't be too disheartened. Perhaps some will have seen the LH web address and wander on here which will be a great result also - many hands make light work and all that

I know that what we raised wasn`t too bad considering the low turnout, but it`s just a bit disappointing when you see so many lovely donations on the table and no-one buying. Personally, I could have spent a fortune on some of the stuff. Maybe I will give in to temptation yet.
All the more for Stonehaven, unless something else crops up in the meantime.

Had 3 people who went away with details of LH and cards with phone numbers so we might get some more recruits if nothing else. One was a man, and he told me he`d never come across any other men who knit, so I told him we had a few male members and he wasn`t alone enjoying his hobby.

Well done Elaine, £35 is better than a kick up the rear end. With the difficult times, everyone is looking for something for nothing. Goodness knows what will happen at Stonehaven? We can only try and be positive and hopefully come away with some cash. I shall be trying, probably very trying.

You made a pretty healthy profit there in an age where everyone seems to want something for nothing. We have done a few car boots this year and I'm always shocked by peoples attitudes. They all seem to want things for 20p/50p and things are priced higher than that they looked shocked and walk away, even if the items are valuable.

Homemade gifts just aren't as popular as they used to be simply because the supermarkets are selling everything so cheap these days from clothes to gifts and seasonal items. People don't seem to care that the items are made by hand or the love and thought that has gone into making something. All they see is the price tag. It's all a real shame.

Try not too be disheartened and just keep doing what you are doing. Atleast you made a profit and making things for LH is great because you know everything will go to people who need and appreciate things.

I think the term is "I'll get off my soap box now"
