Has anyone had swine flu yet? Our house is in the grip of it at the moment, and I was wondering about how other people had got on. Ken has now been poorly for 9 days, and the doctor has been out twice so far. I've never seen a case of proper flu before, and I will never again believe anyone who says they've had a 'touch of flu'. It doesn't 'touch' - it flattens!! Apparently I would have got it by now if I was going to, but I'm so tired that my fingers won't spell long words the first time of asking!!
The knitting is coming along well though. The wretched slip-over may well get finished at this rate!!

Hi Karen,

My sister was diagnosed with it a coupe of weeks ago, and it lasted a week or two, but i am not sure of the severity of it as i havent seen her in months and also don't speak to her often, but she did tell me over the phone it was pretty bad! her little 3 year old son was diagnosed with it too, but during the summer when it was just coming out, and he was one of the first people in my little town to get it, athough after a couple of tablet medication, he got well, my sister just gave him paracetamol i think it was, the liquid one, and that helped, she feels it helped more than that tamiflu they prescribed him. she was on the tamiflu too, but not that long either, as her symptoms didnt last long, however she works as a nusery teacher and so was not allowed at work again for a week or so, for precautions.
although she and my nephew live together, they didnt get it at once, nor did his little sister, my niece or their dad, so i guess it wasnt very severe?
my sister did say that it wasnt very different to normal flu for her, but apparently both her and my nephew were diagnosed with swine flu. although being only 3 my nephew was affected more, as he was little and didnt understand why he felt how he did, was constantly crying, tired, not wanted to do anything and just sleep, etc. but at least it passed now and they are doing well.
hope your family get well soon. :)

Salma xx

Get well soon, Karen. I am thinking of you. My daughter had a non too severe bout of this a couple of months ago which was worrying because she was 6 months pregnant and has a daughter who has just turned 3. But they were lucky that their symptoms were slight. All is well now and the bump is enormous!

Thanks for your words of encouragement! There's no improvement as yet, and he really is in a sorry state. I suppose it seems worse because he is never normally ill with anything. I have to phone the doctor again tomorrow to let them know how he is progressing (or not), and to find out what to do next. On the one hand, I know it will just take time, but it's worrying all the same.

Hope Ken starts recovering soon Karen, it always seems to be the fittest that fall the hardest when they are ill. Ron and I have just been for our flu jab but don't suppose we will qualify for a swine flu jab when they are available as I'm sure we don't come under the category of those 'most at risk'. If you are giving him lots of TLC that is all you can do and I am sure he will start to respond to treatment soon. Dot

Hello

Hope you are feeling better soon !

Ive had flu, dont know what sort, but it was horrible :(

It spreads quickly to other people too

Infact I havent done any knitting for atleast 3 weeks, which is not like me !

Ive been looking at the latest updates & photos on the forum to find some inspiration.
All the donations are so lovely
I just need to decide on what to make & then make a start

I think once I make a start, I will be fine....

Take Care HKX

Quick update on the patient. He's now in hospital, where they are trying to combat his dehydration, weakness and confusion - was taken in this pm after a visit to the Urgent Care Clinic last night. I'm doing quite well on 3 hours sleep! They now say it might not have been swine flu at all, just a vague virus that has caused all these problems. At least we will all get a good night's sleep tonight, and then I'll find out more tomorrow.

Poor Ken - hope he is feeling better - at least he is now in the right place and hopefully the rest of you can get some decent rest so you will be fit and able to take care of him while he recuperates. I have Miss Jenna tucked up in bed unwell tonight - she has a fever and sniffles and says her tummy is sore. Will be keeping a very close eye on her as hospital have said that swine flu would not be a good idea at all for me. Hopefully it is just a nasty cold but Fife has been hit really hard over the last couple of weeks with thousands of cases reported and the hospitals have cancelled all but urgent proceedures to allow them to be able to fight this nasty bug.

Sorry to hear that Ken has been so poorly, and hope he will soon be on the mend and you can all start to get back to normal.
How do you manage on 3 hours sleep... please try to take care of yourself, you'll be no good to anyone if you get ill!

Take care x

Sorry to hear about Ken and hope he gets better soon. It is a really nasty bug and seems much worse than ordinary flu. Take care of yourself.

Molly

Sorry to hear Ken has been so poorly. Please try to take the opportunity of him being in hospital and cared for to catch up on a bit of sleep for yourself even if it is a doze in a chair.

Hope he is on the mend soon

Hope the patient is doing better today Alison - Jenna is doing her best to have fun with all the Halloween things going on around her but is feeling pretty miserable at the same time and I have been fighting to keep her temperature down today. She is back asleep in her bed again so hopefully will be feeling better in the morning. I was thinking of you all day today - you must be so worried about him (and men are such bad patients so I don't envy you when he gets home and is on the mend ;0). Give him a big hug from all of us and tell him to get better soon xx
