There I was feeling all smug because I've finally finished the back of the v neck jumper I'm doing, when I read through the instructions for the front! Sad

Ok. Help needed. What does 'dec 1st at neck edge 1/3" (11) times mean'? Is it simply decrease 1 stitch every third of an inch, 11 times?

I know, I've got to make it through the rib without any patches of moss stitch first! Embarassed

Hopefully I'll get this finished before the end of the challenge... Rolling Eyes

Katherine

Which pattern are you using? It doesn't say that on mine.

I don't understand it either.

it's from www.knitcrochetpatterns.com - which is the one from the link on the LovingHands website (on the page listing the challenges). I'm guessing it does mean every third of an inch. Haven't got that far yet though!!

sometimes I need reassuring that i'm doing things right. i still class myself as a novice even though i've known how to knit since i can remember, i lack the experience!

i'm intrigued - what does it say on yours??

Hi Katherine - I'm not making that jumper as I'm not a knitter but I've read it through to see if I can cast any light. Two things spring to mind....the one you suggested - decrease a stitch every 1/3 of an inch - if you were to measure a 1/3" then multiply it by the number of times you have to decrease would this make it too long? The alternative I thought of was decreasing a stitch a 1/3 of an inch away from the edge...but not sure if this would create the v in the right way. I'm sure an experienced knitter out there can point you in the right direction....or maybe they have made this one. Sorry I can't be of more help....I was just trying to pass some ideas on that might spark some sort of realisation. Best of luck.

I would think it means Dec 1st every 3rd row until the rigth number of sts are left.

I would try Sue's explanation decreasing 1 stitch every third row, which means you will have to do 33 rows to cover all the decreasing. Count the number of rows you have worked on the back from the point where the V shaping will match and see if 33 rows is too many. If it is then use alternate rows instead. Hope you can understand this Dot

thanks ladies for your help. Very Happy
i've had the tape measure out and found that 1/3inch is about 3 rows in my knitting tension so maybe it is both! and i've been measuring the back and in theory it looks like it should all work out.
here's hoping anyway!
