Hi there,
I came across this while reading Martins Money Tips and thought what a really good idea.
My name is Sue and I live in Bognor Regis West Sussex. I have been knitting on and off all my life and generally only knit for myself, but that does mean I often have all those odd balls of wool that I haven't got a clue what to do with.
I have lots of other hobbies, and I work so don't have that much time to knit, but would like to be able to help towards a local charity, I suppose the nearest group I have seen on this site is Portsmouth (I work in Havant) not that far away.
I am not sure how this all works, so hopefully someone will put me in the picture.
Sue

Hello Sue

Welcome to the group. Our Portsmouth group meets in the Cosham Community Centre (opposite the back entrance of Boots) the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month and we would be delighted to see you there. I am sure Abi will be in touch with you to give you directions.

Doesn't matter how small your knitting contribution is, it is always very gratefully received. It is very hard to work and also fit in time for knitting and I appreciate how lucky I am being retired and having that extra time, I suppose the flipside to that is that I am an old fogey :D

Anything you make can be sent directly to Lou in Fife but you save on postage if you can get to a local group as we combine everyone's work in a huge box and use a courier to take it up to Lou and it works out a lot cheaper that way, so if you can pop in occasionally to join us in Cosham it would save you postage and you would have a fun couple of hours too.
As to what to knit, well that is up to you as you can pretty well donate anything and it will be used. Small children's items, lap blankets, scarves, hats, toys all find a grateful recipient.

Look forward to reading more posts from you on here in the future.

Hi Sue - welcome to the Group. I live near Heathfield, East Sussex so just a bit too far to get to the Portsmouth Goup...so I'm jealous as all the Groups have a lot of fun. I too work full time but I'm in London so only get to do an 1hr or 2 after I get home and we've had dinner & washed up and at the weekends inbetween the chores and a bit of going out. We usually take part in some Challenges (there's a thread down the bottom) every quarter and the next one is due to be announced 18th July. They're a bit of fun but not compulsory. There is also a Wish List under "Important, Please Read First" which lists the type of things that are regularly required. However, you can make whatever you like and feel comfortable with. Above all, have fun and enjoy yourself. Lorraine

Welcome Sue

As Lynn has already said, it would be great if you could get to our Portsmouth Group some time. We have a lot of fun and some people actually do knitting at the meeting!!! All I ever seem to do is chat
Seriously though, you have joined a great group of people and it makes it feel really worthwhile if you know you are producing something that can be put to good use.

Lorraine - wish you were a bit nearer and could get to our meeting also. It's very hard working full-time and fitting everything in and sometimes there are just not enough hours in the day. At least we can all keep in touch through the Forum which is great.

Happy knitting

Molly

It was really a nice welcome getting your replies, and it is so nice to know that there is a friendly group quite near if I ever had the chance to get there.
Can you tell me what time you meet, just in case I could make it?
Thanks
Looking forward to getting to know you all better.
Sue

Hi Sue

We meet at Cosham Community Centre, Wootton Street, Coham, Portsmouth, PO6 3AP from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month. It would be great if you could get along to a meeting. We do have fun and it's nice to get know everyone apart from the fact that we are producing lots of lovely things for charity.

Happy knitting

Molly

Hello Sue and welcome from west Yorkshire...far too far away from the Portsmouth Group which seem to have lots of fun and laughter AND THEY HAVE LOTS OF HOME MADE CAKES TOO! Hope you do manage to get to one of their meetings as they do sound like fun and they do produce some incredibly lovely things. WISH I LIVED IN PORTSMOUTH! As a "By the way"... we spent many happy holidays at Hayling Island when our daughter was little.
Love Mad Maureen X

Hi Maureen

We also wish you lived near us and good join the meetings. We do have a good time and I always feel better after I have been to the meeting. Lots of people still holiday at Hayling Island. I worked in the French Department at our local school and the Head of Department lives in Hayling Island so I have been there quite a few times for barbecues and parties. :D

Molly
