I've FINALLY finished my sands blanket. It's a huge relief to be done. I'm even considering maybe starting another one because it is such a good cause. We'll see...

I've got a question about the border though. Is it possible to pick up the stitches for the border or it is easier to sew one on?

I'd appreciate any advice. Huge thanks.

Hi, I have finished my square and am thinking of knitting the border to it as I have a shawl pattern that is knitted that way but only 3ply. I guess this will be bulky to keep turning so will probably knit the border then stitch it on. Hope it helps. Like you I think I may do a second one as it doesn't take any thinking about while I have a houseful of visitors. Must have a few minutes out here and there for knitting.
Mag x :)

Hi Ladies

I did a smaller blanket a while ago and sewed the lace edging at the top only. The lace edge pattern is really pretty and can be sewn to the top or all around the blanket if you want to. Hope this helps.

Molly

At the risk of being throttled....I made my crochet version of the Sands blanket - started Thursday night and finished it yesterday - border all 4 sides to full 24" and packaged it up to post. Pretty sure body looks ok but really annoyed as spotted a slight discolouration in the wool which I didn't see when watching the TV otherwise would have cut out the piece of wool. Still, sent it as not too bad. Hope border turned out ok as could only go from the limited picture. Would have knitted up a sample piece to match up in crochet but didn't understand the instructions. Oh well, if not suitable, Lou can send to someone else.

What pattern did you use for the crochet sands blanket Lorraine I would like to crochet one too but wouldn't know where to start.

Okay I want to scream now.

I am almost finished my border for the Sands blanket and it does not look like the one in the pictures. I am following all of the instructions. It's come out with 3 rows of even holes (the yo, k2tg's) and some pointy bits on the top. It just doesn't look right. Hang on I'll take a pic and post it, hopefully someone can tell me if it's right or not

Any ideas on what I've been doing wrong?

Hi Winterknitter

It is a while since I did the blanket border but it looks fine to me. I seem to remember it was a bit fiddly to do but I think yours looks fine.

Hi Linda - as I understood the Sands blanket was a corner to corner, I used Lion Brand, Bright Eyes Baby Throw 80980AD and just carried on going until the side measured 20". I'm afraid that I don't do exact sciences as I make the items up with whatever I have in my stash so sometimes have to adapt. Don't forget as corner to corner it looks like a triangle so you have to measure from the point you started along the edge for your 20" so that when you decrease you make the other half of the triangle making a whole square. It's done in double crochet but pattern is American so sc and hdc is half treble. Made up the border to match what I could see in the picture - so need a close up like Winterknitter's so that I can work out patterning properly. Sorry Winteriknitter - but mine didn't look like that. Haven't got a camera at mo and certainly wouldn't know how to upload so haven't taken a picture. I was going to try a knitted sample so that I could replicate in crochet but got tangled up with all the yarn forward and didn't understand it at all.

Oooh nooooo!
Every time I see a SANDS blanket thread I have a peek but I really shouldn't now I have just started one!
I'm getting to the "forever" point having started and thought "don't know what everyone was on about" - I do now and have hidden my tape from myself to stop myself measuring how fast it isn't growing!
Not feeling too good this evening so off for a bath and may do a few rows after depending on how I feel.
Keep up the blanket talk, I think I'm going to need the cameraderie!

I started my fourth blanket last night after finishing the monkey - it's great to do something simple again. I must admit I don't put the edging on but quite like them plain anyway. It's something you can do while watching the TV or chatting - no brain work!
