As title says this is a thick question but I do need an answer. I am doing the Sands blanket (Thanks for the wool, Lou) but I am not sure about the measuring of it. When it says continue until work measures 20 inches (or whatever)does that mean 20 inches measured vertically from start to needle or along the outside diagonal edge? Can't continue until I get a reply as I do not want to do it wrong.

Hi Maureen, glad you asked that, I didn't want to appear 'thick' also. My knitting has a mind of it's own & not always same as pattern. I am sure we will be put straight. Hope you are getting better . Do.

Hello girls.

You may have your answer by now but here we are again. Measure your 20" from 1st stitch cast on along the edge up to the needle, either side as it will be the same. Best to do it when flat. Hope you have enjoyed doing the blankets. Good luck with the borders, very easy too, do them with your eyes shut after a few inches, and dont forget to knit enough to gather round the corners. I knit 16 patts and 1 for round the corner.
Hope that is of help. Sewing on border is easy too. A stitch from the blanket to stitch from the border and it looks as the rows are going straight accross without a seam. That is for the unhappy sewers on of the borders.
Best wishes all. Keep on knitting, happily I hope.

Mag x :)

Many thanks to you, Mag for your reply. I can rattle on now as my blanket is already 20 inches on the outside edge. Decreasing here I come!
And to dear Do... I am not feeling too bad at the moment but my poor little fat legs do not move properly and my right hip is awful painful BUT...good news.. I must be reasonably healthy for someone with a DVT because the specialist is not seeing me until 28th. July!!!!!!!!! Then I will hear the results of the tests and scans that I had at the end of April/beginning of May. Either the results came back with nothing sinister :D or else I am not expected to live that long so that will free up the appointments system!

Oh.. I measured mine from the bottom to the top, if you see what I mean - from the point of the V to the needle....anyway it is finished and I am pleased with it. Really enjoyed doing the border.

I wasn't sure if I could do it - but am so pleased I did. Every stitch is dedicated to my grandson James, who was 'born sleeping' 5 years ago this month.

Oh Maureen, its a good job you can laugh about it. A lot of folk would be grumbling and complaining about the NHS. When you think how many years it has been running and that it was originally started just to give us all basic health care and it seems nowadays we expect miracles. Anyway I hope they can give you some good, positive news when you eventually get to see them on 28th July :D Dot
