Hello

The other week I was having a spring clean. Found some money (paper notes) that I had forgotten about from some travels abroad. Including some Chinese money from a business trip. Post office exchanged it. I was really pleased that it has paid for some of the postage for my parcels off to LH.

Maybe you have some foreign money that you have forgotten about that could be put to good use ?

Now that’s an idea. LOL. My D H has a penny pot at his side of the bed. He says they wear holes in his pockets. Last time I was in Asda I saw a machine that counted small change and changed it into larger coinage. I will now use that for my postage. Do you think he will miss it?? Lol

Hi All,
SS we put our loose change (2s, 1s and the odd 5p coin) in a sweet tin in the kitchen and last time I took mine to Asda for counting there was over £15 which paid for a chunk of my shopping - only thing is Asda doesn't sell wool

All this talk of saving all the small change in our pockets, brings back memories of saving our 'ship' halfpennies during the war years. I can remember one of our neighbours had a wooden box attached to his garden gate and we used to pop across the road and put in all our halfpennies. Imagine that in this day and age.
On Friday I bought an old florin for 59p from the Oxfam shop, to make a 50th anniversary card for someone.
Did any of you get the valuable 20p piece that is worth £50 or more because the manufacturer forgot to stamp the date on it  Wonder if anyone got the sack :!: Dot

What did he want all the half pennies for Dot? Was he donating it all to charity?

I remember I used to get 3d on a Friday if I did all my jobs in time and had my dad's best shoes all polished and waiting for him so he could go to the local pub after tea. I used to use it along with the other coins I got for running errands for neighbours to pay for my country dancing classes in the local hall :0)

Hello

I tried the Asda coin counting machine once. I think it automatically deducts about 10% or more for counting the money & upgrading it to £1 coins or notes. Ive decided against using this. I spend my pennies more wisely now :?

Hi All,
Yes, HK, all the machines do deduct some for counting the change. But then I have taken it all into the bank in the past  not exactly a pleasant experience.
I'd rather hand over a bit to whichever supermarket I take it into and use the rest for my shopping

Hi all,
I too have saved all odd coins for years, ever since my sons were young. We used to tip it all out on the carpet and divide it between us the night before our holiday every year, the boys loved having a bag of money each to spend just how they wanted. 8)

Now it comes in very handy for WOOL
When I have a reasonable amount I bag it up and OH takes it to the local PO, the lady in there is always grateful for small change, as long as its bagged up. Its only a small PO but quite a busy one.
