I love scottish butter tablet - but lost the recipe years ago - my mums best friend who was from Perthshire taught me to make it as a kid, and I love it... If any of you lovely scottish ladies have an authentic recipe, i'd love to see that in the book. I'm not sure Portsmouth have any particular regional specialties... but it would be nice to have a recipe from each of the group regions... I'll keep thinking on that one - Maybe Hampshire will be more productive! PS. Love the sound of butteries - haven'y a clue what they are but still sound lovely. |

It`s not just cakes we need. It would be good if we could have a few different sections eg Soups / starters Main courses puddings / desserts baking - cakes, cookies, biscuits, muffins, traybakes etc sweets ? truffles ,tablet , the sort of things you might make for school fairs and fundraisers. These are just a few suggestions to give you some idea of what we could have in the book. If we could get 1 or 2 recipes from each of you that would be great and we could get things going - the sooner you get the recipes to me, the sooner you can buy a copy and try out all the goodies. MAD MAUREEN - just stop dribbling and drooling !!! I can hear you from here Elaine. |

Just got back from being out for the day - lovely sunny day, but within half an hour of getting home we had a shower of hailstones - quite big ones too. Brrrrr. The recipes are just the job ladies ..... just as well Maureen can`t see them, her keyboard would be wringing wet with all the drooling and dribbling Keep them coming. Elaine. |

Fiona - Illona & Karen Thanks very much for the recipes you sent. I`m going to have to stop actually reading all the recipes as I can feel the inches going on and at 5`1" and the weight I am already (?) I can`t afford that. Mind you, if I could grow about a foot taller my weight would be about right Keep the recipes coming girls (& boys ?) Elaine. |

Just 'bumping' this so our new member can find it. I wondered if you would like my late DH's Black Forest Cherry Cake recipe - believe me its a proper job gorgeous, but labour intensive - I was the skivvy aah! I remember it well. I would love to send Mums Scone recipe but she can't remember it & I've never been able to re-create them - I have a breadmakers touch not a pastry chefs, good for making bread, batters, sponge cakes & whipping cream, eggs etc. Not good for pastry or anything that needs "rubbing in". Has anyone sent a 'boiled fruit loaf' recipe - I love those? OOH and anything with ground almonds & jam - except Bakewell pudding yuk! However, a really rich almondy, jammy Bakewell Tart, now thats a horse of a different colour! Sorry - seem to have slipped into nostalgia mode! 'bye for now luv Pam |

Hi Pam Ages since I made the boiled fruit loaf recipe - so easy and delicious. Why don't you send it in. I tried the Black Forest Gateau once but far too labour intensive for me. My mouth is watering now so I may have to go and have a chocolate biscuit!!!! Molly |

Yes please do send me those recipes. Can all the newbies send recipes in as well please. ANYTHING at all, sweet or savoury, easy or more difficult. We`ll find a section to put it in - just as Lou finds somewhere to send your other donations. Elaine. |

Don't know if Elaine is feeling up to worrying about our recipe book yet Ilona - hopefully now that the funeral is past she will slowly be able to pick up the reins again. We are all looking forward to the day when she actually feels up to posting a wee message on here or over on MSE site - that will let us know our dear friend is beginning to feel stronger and able to carry on with her good work. I am hoping that she will feel up to immersing herself in the Aberdeen and Shire groups and sorting out our recipe book - maybe in time for Christmas :0) |

Keeping busy and having someting to focus on and something that involves you is a wonderful way to help you through those lonely hours when you have lost someone you love. Believe me I know, but it will not take away the heartache nor the loss. It will however focus your mind in a different direction and will help as a way forward. I hope Elaine will be able to try to find a focus. The sad times become less if you are busy but Elaine must accept this for herself. The recipe book was her "Baby" , maybe it will be her comforter too. I truly hope she will find something to focus on very soon. she will have plenty of support here and many an understanding and sympathetic ear if she needs one. I think if we do go ahead with the recipe book we should dedicate it to Elaine's husband. Love Mad Maureen X |
