HI Ladies
I was thinking about all the ladies on this group and wondered what started you knitting etc and why you knit/crochet or sew for charity too?

I started knitting 40 years ago - taught by my grandmother. I love all the different wools etc.
I used to knit for family but they dont want handknits so much now - both my daughters prefer fashion stuff from the shops

I can't work for health reasons - I get bad migraines which last a couple of days at a time and I also have joint an muscle problems.

So I knit for charity as well as doing some items for myself - keeps me out of mischief Smile

It seems like quite a few of us have health problems and knitting keeps me sane ( as well as doing a little bit of art too)

Love to hear what you all think about this

Pam x

Hi Pam

I hadn't been knitting for years. I sort of taught myself. I never was any good so I gave it up as a bad job.

Ange introduced me to this site and I lurked for a bit and thought why not. So I joined and started knitting again. I'm quite enjoying it even though I have messed up a thing or two Sad and getting to know you all is great. An added asset. Smile

Laughing I learned to knit at the age of 4 and have been doing it ever since - I had a spell designing my own things about 25 years ago and that was fun - now I just do it because I love it :0) Starting this group up was the best thing I ever did though - I couldn't possibly have imagined how wonderful it would turn out to be. Thank you all just for being yourselves - you are all wonderful whether you knit, crochet or sew (or do all three!). I count you all among my daily blessings which makes me a very lucky lady :0)

Hi Pam

I started knitting when I was about 8 years old and haven't stopped since. Once knit a shawl in 2ply wool with about 120 lines to the pattern. It drove me to distraction but it was beautiful when I finished it. Knitting seems to be very fashionable at the moment and lots of celebrities seem to have started knitting. I am so pleased to have joined this group. Great people and lots of good advice if you need it. Lou is a star and I don't know she manages to fit everything in.

Molly

I learned to knit when I was about 7 and then I didn't do much until I became pregnant with my son. Another few year past and I thought I'd take up knitting again as I have been trying to lose some weight and knitting stops me from eating. Then I found Loving Hands and now I have become addicted to knitting I have even started dreaming about it as the other night I was knitting a blanket in my dream I wish it was real though as wouldn't it be great if we could all knit in our sleep just imagine how much we would get done.

I've been crocheting from about 7 - my Mum showed me how to make a chain and gave me her needle. I bought a little book at the school fete and taught myself. My Mum always wanted doiles and tablecoths which she sold (kept some herself) and then started me on making baby blankets - funny, I never saw any of the money! I dear friend of mine passed away last year at the age of 96(?) and she was always crocheting blankets for people she thought needed them. When the family asked me to donate to charity it got me thinking and that's when I found Loving Hands. I'm so thrilled to find you all as I was beginning to think that the finer arts were going out of fashion! Now I've put my skills to good use and am learning to make more fun items. Joining LH and chatting on the Forum are the best things that I've done recently. I'm so addicted that I can't wait to sit down to get going and now have a project at work too!

I've always been knitting and I could knit a square before I started school. 50 or so years later still at it. Have knitted everything there is to knit and of course my favourites are baby jackets. Have a knitting bag that is ancient but I keep wool, needles and all the stuff that goes along with knitting in it. Two pockets inside have amazing things in it that have remained hidden for years. For example one sock - now why is that there? Knitting keeps me sane as well.

Hello Pam

My mum first taught me to knit cotton dishcloths on chunky needles. My next project was a roll neck jumper for a boyfriend when I was about 16 and he wore it virtually continuously (apart from when it was in the wash) until it fell apart - bless him.

I had made a few scarves and the odd baby jacket over the years but it never really gripped me until now. Just before Christmas last year my partner's son asked me if I could knit him a beanie hat which turned out to be very popular with his friends so I made lots more. Then I knitted some small hats for the special care baby unit where my grandson was cared for and since that time I just can't stop.

I have become obsessed with woolshops! Can't pass one without buying some yarn so I was a bit deflated when the unit I was knitting for said they didn't really need anything else for a while. Luckily someone pointed me in the direction of Lovinghands so that I can knit to my heart's content and know that my little garments will be wanted and needed.

I was taught to knit before I went to school(50 odd years ago) but never really got the hang of it. My mum and sisters were all brilliant at it, so I supose I never had to learn properly. I always wanted to be able to do it but nothing ever fitted or worked out right. Just recently I injured my shoulder quite badly and I couldn't do my sewing and patchwork and quilting. I was so bored I bought loads of magazines and saw the bit about loving hands. It seemed a good idea to knit for babies as well as charity and the rest is history! Also I feel as though I have lots of new friends even though we've not met
